Towards the production of chlorine dioxide from electrochemically <scp><i>in‐situ</i></scp> produced solutions of chlorate

Abstract BACKGROUND This work focuses on the electrochemical production of chlorate solutions for direct use and integration in manufacture chlorine dioxide (ClO 2 ), from perspective manufacturing portable ClO generators. RESULTS Chlorate was evaluated oxidation sodium chloride (NaCl) contained brackish (20 g L −1 ) brines (200 single chamber flow cells. Efficiency ion 3 − increased with temperature NaCl concentration, but led to a higher quality product, as compared brines, lower concentration hypochlorous acid. To evaluate , samples corresponding two different qualities electrogenerated underwent stripping exhaust chlorine, before being mixed hydrogen peroxide (H O sulfuric Results showed that using solution obtained electrolysis 20 at 50 mA cm −2 passing 57.35 Ah maximum 33.3 mmol could be attained, which corresponds conversion 48.75%.
